Red Rift positioning

How enemies pick their opening target and how to split aggro.

0.5.5 correctionsEnemies target the closest hero first. If two heroes are the same distance away, class priority breaks the tie. Tank comes before Vanguard and the other classes. Tanks and Vanguards don't get an extra hex of taunt. Patch 0.5.5 also adds Stun Resistance: each stack cuts later Stun duration by 25%, with full immunity at 4 stacks. Kai, Skorn, Yuuna, Karsu, and Tilly are also Stun Immune while casting. The video is from Demo 0.5.2, so its hero rankings may be outdated.
Chapter 02

Opening targets

Enemies choose their first target before pulls and teleports happen. They keep that target after moving as long as it is still valid.

The game checks distance first, then class priority, then health. A hidden rule breaks any remaining tie.

Chapter 03

Split aggro

Your tank doesn't have to take every hit. Early backliners are often tanky enough to hold one enemy for a few seconds. They still deal full damage at low health.

Pull one attacker away when it buys your tank time. Keep carries clear of random targeting and AoE. Recheck your item conditions after moving anyone.

Chapter 04

Dragon cleave

Your heroes walk forward when combat starts. Place the tank so its first step pulls the Dragon's cleave away from the rest of the team.

The video doesn't give exact coordinates. Use the builder to check the opening movement for the fight you are on.

Match the enemy layout, then check who each enemy targets and where every unit walks.
